Retirement Vacation

It is estimated that in the past seven years, the number of retirees who go on vacations have increased by a whopping 60%. This statistic might be only for the Unites States but the overall trend in the world is also indicating a similar pattern. It is also estimated that the tourist population in the world is accounted by retired travelers, by as much as 30% of the total numbers. This has proved to be a boon for travel companies, leisure resorts, rental and real estate companies and also tour operators. The numbers are too compelling to be ignored and this has warranted most of these companies to have special retirement vacation packages. There are many reasons for this increase in numbers and the most important reason is the economic independence and stability of the present day retirees. Over the past few decades, the economic conditions of most of the developed countries have been on an upward swing and many developing countries have also been successful in stabilizing their economies. Stable economy means that the earning and saving opportunities for the working class is better and people have benefitted greatly from this. They were not only able to earn and live well, they were also able o plan and save better for their retirement. The present day retirees have not only secured the economic stability of their retired lives; they have also saved enough to indulge in many prolonged retirement vacation activities. This economic freedom is also reflected in the spending ability of the retirement vacationers; they are willing to spend a lot more than they would have, a few decades ago. The most popular retirement vacation activity is tourism, which is closely followed by vocational stays in foreign locations. Retired tourists are those who prefer to visit many countries and experience the cultures and customs of the world. These tourists generally prefer to keep their travel itinerary filled with foreign locations, rather than national ones. People, who have been fortunate enough to have travelled during their working period, choose to select one preferred location and stay there for a longer duration of time. Most of the times, the location of stay is also a recreational and tourist spot, that also ensures the leisure of the retirees. Other types of short term retirement vacation types include, local travels, cruises, resort stays, etc. Retirement vacation has become a separate entity unto itself and it is estimated that this industry is set to be doubled in the next five years.
